Chris Comparato is Chief Executive Officer of Toast. He has an extensive background in leading high growth SaaS, software, and consulting companies with a focus on customer success and building strong teams. Prior to Toast, he led all customer success functions at Acquia (named Inc. 500 #1 fastest growing company) and Endeca (acquired by Oracle in 2011). He previously held roles at consulting firms Keane and Cambridge Technology Partners, where his track record of delivering innovative business technology to diverse industries started. He holds a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Union College.
Steve Fredette is President and co-founder of Toast, where he leads product and innovation initiatives. Prior to Toast, he worked on mobile app development before the iPhone came out, creating the first Flickr and Shoebuy.com apps. At Endeca, now Oracle, he co-founded their mobile commerce business, building the product team and driving sales, marketing, and services to over $10 million in revenue in two years. He also ran the Special Operations team at Endeca, creating new prototypes for various customer and business needs, including Endeca’s business intelligence platform. Steve holds a BS degree from MIT.
Aman Narang is President and co-founder of Toast. Prior to Toast, he worked on innovation initiatives at Endeca, now Oracle. Aman spearheaded the development of Endeca’s business intelligence platform as well as their mobile commerce platform, each of which became major business units. He holds BS and MS degrees in Computer Science from MIT and currently leads innovation and business development initiatives at Toast.
Jonathan Grimm is CTO and co-founder of Toast. Prior to Toast, he held solution engineering and application development leadership roles at Endeca/Oracle, interacting with customers on a day-to-day basis and developing new frameworks for the development team. He now spearheads Toast’s software and technology efforts, focusing on scalable infrastructure and technology architecture. With a passion for startups, he leads initiatives to grow the business from a technology perspective. Jon holds a BS in Computer Science from MIT.
Tim Barash is the Chief Financial Officer at Toast, where he leads the company’s financial and strategic operations. Prior to Toast, he led finance and operations at venture-backed startup WeBook and founded record label Shock Value Records. Tim holds a BA in Finance from Stony Brook University.
Emmanuelle leads all the post-sale customer-facing functions at Toast as the VP of Customer Success. She sits on the advisory board of four startups and is a frequent industry speaker and blogger. Prior to Toast, she lead Sales & Customer Success at DigitalOcean, scaled Influitive 10x in two years leading Sales, and ran the Global Channel Sales at Sophos. She was also the first hired sales person at Endeca and Vertica and was fortunate to see both through rapid growth and successful acquisitions. She holds a B.S. in Industrial Management from Carnegie Mellon University and an M.B.A. in Marketing and Finance from New York University’s School of Business.
Rick Lamy is Vice President of Sales at Toast. He has extensive experience running sales and operations for Fortune 500 and early stage venture backed restaurant technology companies. While he started his career at NCR, Rick was instrumental in developing MICROS as the worldwide leading point of sale (POS) company in the restaurant and hotel industry during their formidable years. Since that time, he has been instrumental in building start up companies RetailDNA, eMac Digital, Exit41, City Eats (Food Network venture) and Zipscene. He is a graduate of Providence College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management and Marketing.
Jonathan Vassil leads the SMB sales organization as the Vice President of Sales - SMB. He has extensive experience in hyper growth businesses and offers a deep background in SMB sales, operations and marketplace development. He sits on the board of several early stage start-ups and is a business mentor at a leading Baltimore area start-up accelerator. Prior to joining Toast, Jonathan held several sr leadership roles at GolfNow (Comcast), Orderup and Groupon. He is a graduate of the University of Maryland and holds an MBA from The University of Virginia’s Darden School of Business.
Debra Fleig leads a passionate team of technical professionals dedicated to supporting Toast customers and ensuring their success. Debra comes to Toast with deep experience running global customer care teams at Gazelle, Adobe, Hyperion and Oracle. Debra brings an innovative customer-focused and analytical approach to designing and implementing strategies for long-term growth, improving profitability and exceeding customer expectations.
John Morrison is Vice President of Services at Toast. With a focus on customer success and consistent quality delivery, John comes to Toast with 15+ years of hospitality and technology experience. He has held roles in Restaurant Operations, POS implementation, sales and customer service. Prior to Toast, John was the General Manager for the MICROS Mid Atlantic District Office, with annual revenue of over $10 Million. Most recently he led the North America Consulting/Services team for the Oracle/Micros F&B Division, responsible for POS deployment in both US and Canada. John has a BA in Philosophy from Hamilton College.
Hugh Scandrett is Vice President of Engineering at Toast. He is responsible for leading the development of Toast products in addition to aiding the company in scaling, strategic growth, and meeting long-term goals. Specializing in enterprise software and SaaS technology, Hugh has created and run engineering teams for both startups and established companies. Scandrett previously worked at EnerNOC, Kronos, and IBM Rational, among others. He holds a B.A. in Computer Science from the University of Western Ontario and is a member of several advisory boards, including: Mirah, Continuum and VPE Forum.
Yi Chen is VP of Product for Toast, where he drives product direction with a focus on innovation, quality, and customer experience. Yi comes to Toast with over a decade of experience in the restaurant industry, giving him a firsthand understanding of the complexities and needs of restaurant owners and operators. Prior to Toast, he held several project engineering leadership roles at GE before returning to graduate school to earn an MBA at Harvard Business School. He also holds a BS in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Cornell University.
Nick Leonardis is the VP of Business Services at Toast, deepening the range of financial services offered to customers. Most recently, Nick was Senior Vice President of Credit Trading at the Harvard Management Company. Nick also held senior investment roles at two hedge funds focusing on distressed credit, event-driven and special situations. Nick began his career at Wachovia Securities (now Wells Fargo) as an investment banking analyst where he originated leverage loans and high yield bonds. Nick holds a BA in Economics from Wake Forest University, and a MBA from MIT Sloan.
Brian Elworthy is General Counsel at Toast, where he is responsible for managing all of the company’s legal affairs. Before joining Toast, he served as Assistant General Counsel at inVentiv Health, a global provider of commercial and clinical solutions to the pharma industry. Brian began his legal career at Ropes & Gray, spending six years practicing in the private equity/M&A groups. Brian earned his JD from Georgetown University and his BA from Middlebury College.
Steve Papa is an experienced founder, investor, and startup mentor. He was the founder and CEO of Endeca, which he sold to Oracle for $1 billion in 2011. Steve has held key roles in redefining technology companies over the last 20 years and has been helping the Toast team from founding as chairman. He has a BSE in Engineering and Economics from Princeton and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
Kent Bennett, a Partner in Bessemer's Cambridge office, joined BVP in 2008. At Bessemer Kent has been involved in several investments in the food sector including subscription food concept Blue Apron as well as data infrastructure companies Endeca and Vertica. Before joining Bessemer, Kent wrote and sold original screenplays including a network television pilot and a feature film. He has a BSE in Engineering from the University of Virginia and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
Paul Bell has been Operating Partner at Lead Edge Capital since 2013 where he has worked with portfolio companies including Xamarin, Spredfast and Kapost. Prior to that he was at Dell for 15 years where he served variously as president of the EMEA region, the Americas region, the global Consumer and Small Business unit, and the global Large Enterprise and Public Sector unit. He has an MBA from Yale and BS and BA degrees from Penn State.
