We’re working hard to offer the product in all states. Today, Toast Pay Card and PayOut is available in all states except:

CA, HI, MS, NH, NV, NY, NC, ND, SD, TN, UT, VT. Other requirements may apply.

If you are in a state that is not currently eligible, keep an eye out on this page for when your state becomes eligible.

If you have restaurants in multiple states, they all must be in states that are currently eligible.

States may have laws related to offering pay cards as a form of payroll disbursement and earned wage advances. Employers should become familiar with any laws applicable to them so that they can comply.

Yes, at this time your restaurant must be using Toast Payroll & Team Management.

Toast Pay Cards are issued by Sutton Bank, Member FDIC, pursuant to license by Mastercard. Toast Pay Cards are accepted everywhere Mastercard is accepted in the United States.

As a restaurant operator, there is no change to your payroll process with Toast Pay Card and PayOut.

Toast PayOuts are funded by a 0% line of credit provided to you by Toast, Inc or WebBank, as set forth in your Credit Agreement. Each pay cycle, funds from the line of credit will go toward paying out tips and wages accessed early via Toast PayOut. On payday, amounts funded by the line of credit will be collected at the same time that payroll funds are collected through Toast Payroll.

Toast PayOuts are accessible instantly after an employee finishes their shift if you choose to make them available, subject to limitations. If a restaurant tip pools using Toast Tips Manager, Toast PayOuts of tips are available after the tip pool is approved and sent to Toast Payroll, typically the next calendar day.

Yes, all your non-salaried employees ages 18 or older would qualify for Toast Pay Cards and (if you offer them) PayOuts. We do not offer employers the option to control each employee’s individual access or eligibility for the program. Employees who qualify for the program may choose, but are not required, to use Toast Pay Cards as a payment option.

At this time employees will not be able to split their paycheck between Toast Pay Card and another bank account. They can transfer funds 2x per month for free from their Toast Pay Card account to external bank accounts.4

Employees will continue to have access to the MyToast app, however, Toast PayOuts will be disabled. Employees can access their funds by spending on the Toast Pay Card, withdrawing from ATMs, or making over-the-counter withdrawals until their funds are depleted. Please see Employee FAQ for additional ways to access funds on the Toast Pay Card.

If you tip pool: employees can receive non-cash tips on demand once you or your manager approves the pool through Toast Tips Manager if you are using both Toast Payroll and Team Management and Toast Tips Manager products.

If you do not tip pool: ensure tips are being synced to Toast Payroll and Team Management. We will offer employees a portion of any tips that are under a non-cash earnings code.

Employee FAQ

A prepaid Mastercard debit card that can give you access to a portion of tips and wages without a bank account. It is an alternative to paper checks or direct deposit.

A feature of the Toast Pay Card that may be made available by your employer that gives you instant access to a portion of your earned tips and wages on your Toast Pay Card.1,2 Speak with your employer about the availability of Toast PayOuts specific to your restaurant.

There is no cost to you to use Toast PayOuts. Toast Pay Cards do not have any associated ATM withdrawal or other fees; however, third-party ATM operators may charge a fee unless the cardholder uses an ATM within the MoneyPass Network, and third-party financial institutions may charge a fee for over-the-counter withdrawals unless the institution is a Mastercard member bank.

If you are a non-salaried employee of a restaurant that offers Toast Pay Card and PayOut, and you are 18 or older, then you qualify for the product. You won’t have to provide personal information like your social security number to apply for the Toast Pay Card and there is no credit check. Talk to your employer or GM to see if they offer the program.

Speak with your employer about the availability of Toast PayOuts specific to your restaurant. By default, Toast PayOuts are limited to a portion of wages and tips to help account for estimated taxes, withholdings, and deductions.

Any portion of your paycheck that has not been withdrawn with Toast PayOut will be deposited to your Toast Pay Card on payday.

Anywhere Mastercard is accepted in the United States.

Signing up for Toast Pay Card and Toast PayOut doesn’t require a bank account.

You can provide your Toast Pay Card’s routing and account number to third parties (e.g., your cell phone provider) to pay bills.

At this time you will not be able to split your paycheck between Toast Pay Card and another bank account. If you need to transfer money into a bank account, we recommend that you take advantage of the two free fund transfers per month, found in your MyToast app.4

Yes! You can transfer funds for free directly to a bank account two times per calendar month. It is not possible to exceed that limit, even for a fee.4

  1. Access is typically available instantly after the employee's shift; however, if restaurants tip pool using Toast Tips Manager, Toast PayOuts of tips are available after the tip pool is approved and sent to Toast Payroll, typically the next calendar day.

  2. Availability of Toast PayOuts varies by employer. Visit the MyToast app to see if your employer offers Toast PayOuts. Toast PayOuts may be limited to a portion of pay to help account for estimated taxes, withholdings, and deductions. Tip PayOuts are not available at restaurants that tip pool without using Toast Tips Manager. Employees must receive wages via their Toast Pay Card in order to access Toast PayOuts. Tips will be paid to employees on their Toast Pay Card as though they were receiving them in cash. Wages will be advanced by employers during the pay period and deducted from their total wages paid to them on payday.

  3. Toast Pay Cards do not have any associated ATM withdrawal or other fees; however, third-party ATM operators may charge a fee unless the cardholder uses an ATM within the MoneyPass® Network, and third-party financial institutions may charge a fee for over-the-counter withdrawals unless the institution is a Mastercard® member bank.   4. Fees charged by the receiving financial institution are uncommon but may apply. Employees will receive 2 free transfers per calendar month. It is not possible to exceed that limit, even for a fee. Employees cannot schedule transfers for future dates. There is a limit of $2,500 per transaction, $5,000 per day, and $5,500 per month. Limits are subject to change. Employees should see their Cardholder Agreement for details.
