Chris Comparato


Chris Comparato is Chief Executive Officer of Toast. He has an extensive background in leading high growth SaaS, software, and consulting companies with a focus on customer success and building strong teams. Prior to Toast, he led all customer success functions at Acquia (named Inc. 500 #1 fastest growing company) and Endeca (acquired by Oracle in 2011). He previously held roles at consulting firms Keane and Cambridge Technology Partners, where his track record of delivering innovative business technology to diverse industries started. He holds a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Union College.

Steve Fredette

President & Co-Founder

Steve Fredette is President and co-founder of Toast, where he leads product and innovation initiatives. Prior to Toast, he worked on mobile app development before the iPhone came out, creating the first Flickr and Shoebuy.com apps. At Endeca, now Oracle, he co-founded their mobile commerce business, building the product team and driving sales, marketing, and services to over $10 million in revenue in two years. He also ran the Special Operations team at Endeca, creating new prototypes for various customer and business needs, including Endeca’s business intelligence platform. Steve holds a BS degree from MIT.

Aman Narang

President & Co-Founder

Aman Narang is President and co-founder of Toast. Prior to Toast, he worked on innovation initiatives at Endeca, now Oracle. Aman spearheaded the development of Endeca’s business intelligence platform as well as their mobile commerce platform, each of which became a major business units. He holds BS and MS degrees in Computer Science from MIT and currently leads innovation and business development initiatives at Toast.

Jonathan Grimm

CTO & Co-Founder

Jonathan Grimm is CTO and co-founder of Toast. Prior to Toast, he held solution engineering and application development leadership roles at Endeca/Oracle, interacting with customers on a day-to-day basis and developing new frameworks for the development team. He now spearheads Toast’s software and technology efforts, focusing on scalable infrastructure and technology architecture. With a passion for startups, he leads initiatives to grow the business from a technology perspective. Jon holds a BS in Computer Science from MIT.

Tim Barash


Tim Barash is the Chief Financial Officer at Toast, where he leads the company’s financial and strategic operations. Prior to Toast, he led finance and operations at venture-backed startup WeBook and founded record label Shock Value Records. Tim holds a BA in Finance from Stony Brook University.

Yi Chen

VP Product

Yi Chen is VP of Product for Toast, where he drives product direction with a focus on innovation, quality, and customer experience. Yi comes to Toast with over a decade of experience in the restaurant industry, giving him the firsthand understanding of the complexities and needs of restaurant owners and operators. Prior to Toast, he held several project engineering leadership roles at GE before returning to graduate school to earn an MBA at Harvard Business School. He also holds a BS in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Cornell University.

Ellie Mirman

VP Marketing

Ellie Mirman is VP of Marketing at Toast, where she leads a team of marketing professionals focused on lead generation, product marketing, and customer development. Prior to Toast, she held various marketing leadership positions at HubSpot during its growth from 100 customers to IPO. Ellie holds a BA in World Religions from McGill University.

Rick Lamy

VP Sales

Rick Lamy is Vice President of Sales at Toast. He has extensive experience running sales and operations for Fortune 500 and early stage venture backed restaurant technology companies. While he started his career at NCR, Rick was instrumental in developing MICROS as the worldwide leading point of sale (POS) company in the restaurant and hotel industry during their formidable years. Since that time, he has been instrumental in building start up companies RetailDNA, eMac Digital, Exit41, City Eats (Food Network venture) and Zipscene. He is a graduate of Providence College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management and Marketing.

Barry Hartunian

VP People & Culture

Barry Hartunian is Toast's Vice President of People & Culture. Barry has extensive experience leading Human Resource and Business initiatives for several successful, fast growing technology organizations including ATG, Spotfire and C Space. A great deal of his focus has been on global growth and expansion. Most recently, he was Chief People Officer at Veson Nautical, a global provider of commercial maritime management software and services. He holds a BA in Psychology from Boston College.

John Morrison

VP Services

John Morrison is Vice President of Services at Toast. With a focus on customer success and consistent quality delivery, John comes to Toast with 15+ years of hospitality and technology experience. He has held roles in Restaurant Operations, POS implementation, sales and customer service. Prior to Toast, John was the General Manager for the MICROS Mid Atlantic District Office, with annual revenue of over $10 Million. Most recently he led the North America Consulting/Services team for the Oracle/Micros F&B Division, responsible for POS deployment in both US and Canada. John has a BA in Philosophy from Hamilton College.

Debra Fleig

Senior Director,
Customer Support & Training

Debra Fleig is the Senior Director of Customer Support & Training at Toast, where she leads a passionate team of professionals dedicated to support Toast Customers and ensure their success. Debra comes to Toast with deep experience running global customer care teams at Gazelle, Adobe, Hyperion and Oracle, Debra brings an innovative customer focused and analytical approach to designing and implementing strategies for long-term growth, improving profitability and exceeding customer expectations.

Brian Elworthy

General Counsel

Brian Elworthy is General Counsel at Toast, where he is responsible for managing all of the company’s legal affairs. Before joining Toast, he served as Assistant General Counsel at inVentiv Health, a global provider of commercial and clinical solutions to the pharma industry. Brian began his legal career at Ropes & Gray, spending six years practicing in the private equity/M&A groups. Brian earned his JD from Georgetown University and his BA from Middlebury College.

Mary Casinelli

General VP, Business Development

Mary Casinelli is General VP of Business Development at Toast, overseeing customer success and business development initiatives at the company. Prior to Toast, she worked as Director of Customer Care for several technology companies including NetCracker Technology and IneoQuest Technologies, specializing in account management, sales operations, channel partnerships, and solution selling. She has a BA in Management & Professional Studies from University of Massachusetts Boston.

Ellery Fink

Director, Services

Ellery Fink is Director of Services at Toast, where she leads the team dedicated to creating customer success through project management and implementation for new Toast customers. She comes to Toast from the Bay Area after 13 years as Managing Director of Adventures Cross-Country, an international adventure and community service travel company for teenagers. Ellery holds a BA from the University of Colorado at Boulder and also completed the Professional Culinary Arts program at the San Francisco Cooking School.

Matt Manger

Director, Services

Matt Manger is Regional Vice President of Services at Toast, where he manages customer success through the implementation process. He comes to Toast with more than 15 years of professional services experience from high-growth technology companies Veracode and Endeca. Matt holds a BS and an MS in Computer Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and Syracuse University respectively.

Elizabeth Jalbert, SHRM-SCP

Director, Human Resources

Elizabeth Jalbert joins Toast as the first dedicated resource to People and Culture. With a diverse background in various industries, Elizabeth has a proven career of building (and re-building) the people function in high performing, rapid growth organizations. She holds a BA in Communications and Organizational Development from North Park University.

Brook Stevens

Director, Engineering

Brook Stevens is Director of Engineering at Toast, where he leads a world class group of software engineers building the software that powers Toast. Prior to Toast he spent 3 years at Oracle as both a Director and an Engineer working on analytics in the Big Data technology space. Prior to Oracle Brook held various leadership positions including CTO at eSpendwise (acquired by Sealed Air). Brook holds a BS from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.

Emil Sit

Director, Engineering

Emil Sit is a Director of Engineering at Toast, helping the engineering team learn and grow as they build Toast's restaurant point-of-sale platform. Emil has previously led teams that built and grew some of HubSpot's Sales tools, going from 10k to over 250k weekly active users. He has also built infrastructure and core systems at Hadapt (acquired by Teradata), VMware and Cisco. Emil has a PhD in distributed systems from MIT.

Steve Papa

Board Member

Steve Papa is an experienced founder, investor, and startup mentor. He was the founder and CEO of Endeca, which he sold to Oracle for $1 billion in 2011. Steve has held key roles in redefining technology companies over the last 20 years and has been helping the Toast team from founding as chairman. He has a BSE in Engineering and Economics from Princeton and an MBA from Harvard Business School.

Kent Bennett

Board Member

Kent Bennett, a Partner in Bessemer's Cambridge office, joined BVP in 2008. At Bessemer Kent has been involved in several investments in the food sector including subscription food concept Blue Apron as well as data infrastructure companies Endeca and Vertica. Before joining Bessemer, Kent wrote and sold original screenplays including a network television pilot and a feature film. He has a BSE in Engineering from the University of Virginia and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
