Toast Bar POS Strikes a Chord With Thunder Road Music Club
As a multi-concept business, Thunder Road needs technology that is just as versatile as they are. From sit-down service to the busy dance floor, Toast enables Thunder Road to create memorable guest experiences.
Thunder Road Music Club is a bar, restaurant, and music venue with live shows every night. Needless to say, there’s a lot going on. Bar manager Matt Buchan says that Toast's bar pos system, which is built specifically for bar operations, was exactly what they needed to help them thrive in the busy nightlife scene.
"We wanted to find the POS system of the future, not something that's outdated," Matt says.
Making Menu Edits on the Fly
As a multi-concept venue, it's critical for Thunder Road to have a POS that can keep up with constant changes. They keep 14 beers and two wines on draft so customers can enjoy a drink whether they're watching a show or sitting down for a boozy brunch.
“Most of our drafts are rotating, so we want to bring in new product,” explains Matt. “Most times it happens when you're selling product mid shift.”
With Toast, Matt can easily make instant menu edits himself. If a draft switches out in the middle of a set, he can make the changes from the Toast tablet behind the bar. This simple function helps save time during peak business hours.
“I love how I'm able to change the name of the beer on the fly whenever I want to,” says Matt. “I no longer have to go downstairs in the office to change things. Instead, we can go behind the bar, update profit, and get new counts on the fly. This is a huge benefit and is why we went with Toast.”
Constant Communication With KDS
With a kitchen display screen, Matt and his staff are able to easily communicate with their downstairs kitchen.
“Our kitchen display screen lets us see which orders are up, and which are pending,” explains Matt. “To have someone in the kitchen communicate with us upstairs that our orders are ready is a huge help. They allow us to do foodservice in an environment that can sometimes get hectic.”
Kitchen display screens add visibility to the operations at Thunder Road. Color coordinated wait times makes it easier for the kitchen to handle orders more accurately. Servers can also easily communicate with the kitchen and make changes and additions to orders without having to waste time walking downstairs.
Plug and “Play”
Toast’s tablet-based system makes setup and staff training easy. Matt’s found that it’s easy for his staff of different levels of experience to understand.
“It's very self-explanatory. It's the way you imagine a POS should work,” he says.
At a high volume bar like Thunder Road, simple operations like this can be a huge time saver.
“Just that small amount of time you save from [a POS] feature can be the make or break of whether you have a good or bad night,” Matt adds. “Having a POS that makes things easy and straightforward has allowed us to focus on running the bar and creating live shows.”
Things can get hectic as Thunder Road transitions from dinner to nightclub to brunch spot. With Toast, Matt is able to simplify these complex operations with Toast. Quick menu edits and kitchen display screens increase communication between both staff and customers.
